Renting textbooks is becoming a more popular option for college students. It allows students to rent textbooks for their college classes at a fraction of the ever increasing retail price. Some courses can require students to pay as much as $300 for textbooks and equipments for classes. Sometimes after the students has invested this amount for the course, the publisher will release new more expensive edition and refuse to buyback the previous version.

As a renter, you have responsibilities regarding the condition and upkeep of the books.  Read your contract and make sure you understand the terms you are agreeing to.  Some common terms are:

• Returning the books after your rental period is up (unless you get an extension) - many vendors offer free shipping for returns.
• You must limit how you treat the books. Some vendors let you use highlighters in the books but verify this prior to doing it.
• Lastly, the books should be returned in good condition.
